# Skoot

> Skoot is the scooter rental app for Thailand. Travellers book verified rental shops in-app with card payment, sign a digital contract before pickup, and verify their ID with a passport scan. Crucially, Skoot holds the rental deposit in escrow — the shop never holds the customer's passport or cash. If a shop wants to deduct money for damage, they must submit a photo claim that Skoot approves. This eliminates the most common scooter-rental scams in Thailand.

## How the deposit escrow works

1. Customer picks bike, dates and shop in the Skoot app
2. Customer signs the rental contract in-app
3. Customer scans their passport for ID verification (no physical passport handover)
4. Customer pays the rental fee and refundable deposit by card — Skoot holds the deposit
5. Customer shows a QR code at the shop and rides away
6. On return, if no damage, the deposit auto-releases. If damage, the shop submits a photo claim and Skoot approves or rejects it.
